It is just did by a simple method that changing a IP for each and every second and creating a traffic on the server. For example : A person get into a website means he will be a part of user on that server. Likewise many of the users can be use the same server at the same time. In such concept the DOS Attack is based on. But it is done by an individual one or a single computer. The single computer send the request to the server from various IP’s at the same time. It is technically known as Flooding. Therefore the server got collapse. Then it hangs on. That is DOS Attack.
